Haiku, formerly Clerk, is a Gironde-based start-up specialising in the development of SaaS solutions for lawyers and legal professionals. Using advanced artificial intelligence technologies, it simplifies and optimises the day-to-day work of law firms. Haiku recently completed a €1.3 million financing round, orchestrated by the investment fund Newfund via its regional vehicle NAEH Innopy, and backed by around fifteen influential business angels.
Co-founded in November 2023 by Jules, Alexandre and Jean-Marcel Touzet, Guillaume Peillon and Nathan Redin, Haiku is a start-up based at the Unitec incubator in Bègles. It develops SaaS software described as an ‘AI-powered workspace’, which significantly improves the documentary research capabilities of legal professionals. Employing twelve people, Haiku has rapidly established itself as a key player in legal innovation.
With the help of Talas Partner as financial intermediary, Haiku initially raised €900k to boost its R&D. The main investor, Newfund, contributed between €100 and €500k via its Newfund NAEH Innopy 2 vehicle, aimed at innovative companies in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The fund-raising, which valued Haiku at €4m, was also supported by some fifteen business angels, including François Tricot (Eyesoft), François Le Faucheur (ex-Codesna), and Carol Lambert (Deloitte), with contributions ranging from €10k to €80k. Total funding reached €1.3m thanks to loans from Bpifrance.
This funding will enable Haiku to step up its investment in R&D, in particular for the development of automatic named entity recognition and automated document authoring. Already deployed with a number of customers, Haiku plans to expand its offering and strengthen its international impact. With these resources, Haiku also plans to recruit new talent from early 2025.
Altaïr Avocats advised Haiku with Pierre Gramage, partner and Jeanne Mucchielli, associate.
